Property Manager Charged With Theft of $200,000 in Frostburg

June 19th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

In February 2018 the Frostburg Police and the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) initiated an investigation into allegations of theft after being contacted by several different property owners who owned student rental properties in Frostburg.

The investigation revealed that all the rental properties were being managed by A2Z Property Management, owned and operated by Brenda Lorrine Byrnes. C3I Investigators conducted numerous interviews and reviewed numerous financial documents, including bank records, cancelled checks, and credit card transactions as part of the investigation. Those interviews and documents led Investigators to the conclusion that Byrnes was responsible for the theft of over $200,000.00 from all the different victims.

The case was presented to the Allegany County Grand Jury, who indicted Byrnes on five counts of Theft Scheme over $10,000.00, to over $100,000.00, depending on the amount stolen from each individual owner/victim.

Byrnes, 42 years of age, from Grantsville, was charged via criminal summons, which was recently served by the Garrett County Sheriff's Office. She is currently free, pending her next court appearance.
