A proposal to turn Maryland into a “sanctuary state” by limiting local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities died in the State House on the final day of the General Assembly session after lawmakers withdrew the bill. In recent weeks Senate President Mike Miller said emphatically that the bill that came out of the House would not pass the senate- and if it had, Governor Larry Hogan was already on record saying he would veto it. Bobby Zirkin, the chair of the state Senate judicial proceedings committee, said Tuesday the bill was never going to pass his committee as written. Zirkin, a Baltimore County Democrat, told WBAL that while he doesn't want to downplay the fears of some of his colleagues in the House of Delegates, the rebukes of lawmakers like Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez of Montgomery County were more about what he called "ideological purity" than political reality…
