Prosecutor Mum On Light Embezzlement Sentence

February 15th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

In November, the former treasurer of the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, who had pleaded no contest to charges of embezzling over $300,000 from the department.

This week we reported that Cheryl Shipley had received a sentence of 120 days in jail, and ordered to pay restitution of $400 per month.  Earlier, she had reportedly paid $28,000 in restitution.

We reached out to Mineral County Prosecuting Attorney Cody Pancake for a reaction to the sentence, which many in the community considered to be rather light considering the amount involved in the embezzlement.

Pancake refused an opportunity to discuss the case on the Dave Norman Program.  His staff did say he would answer questions via email.

So far, the questions about this case, and a separate case involving a shooting in the Short Gap/Fort Ashby area in December, have gone unanswered.
