PSC approves next step for Dan’s Mountain Wind Force

June 10th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Public Service Commission on Wednesday had granted Dan’s Mountain Wind Force the exception needed to move forward with the controversial project. It’s a case that is now several years old pitting the developer against a citizens group strongly opposed to the project. The company looking to place 17 wind turbines on the ridgeline of Dan’s Mountain near the communities of Midland and the Harwood Subdivision, along with Vale Summit, Cresaptown and Bel Air.  The opponants, known as ANCHOR, have argued  that the project would create excessive noise pollution, destroy neighborhood views and negatively impact property values. The PSC decision, announced via a two paragraph statement on it’s website, offered no rational for its ruling stating simply that it has “granted the Company’s Application for an exemption of the requirement to obtain a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity”.

    In it’s ruling the PSC is essentially ignoring the complaints of the lunatic fringe. As it should.

      > Over and over these turbines have been proven to be costly longer after they should be effective for the environment. They require 291 tons of coal to manufacture through to installation. What a hypocritical “environmentally friendly” project. Let’s just stick with our peaceful and beautiful view instead of messing up the skyline.

    There are many reasons for objecting, the most important is the lack of an independent environmental review thanks to the developer’s political power in exempting his projects and others in 2007;

    The implications are that all the mountian ridges in Western Maryland are open, no matter the fact that they are the last remaining stands for Nature in our region.

    This is a travesty. The idea that the world can function with no fossil fuels. Come on. Come to your senses. Put up some sun panels and windmills … see how much of the world you will power.

    Follow the money and you will see who truly benefits from the windmills. Environmentally friendly – what a joke!
