Questions Raised on Not Puting Rolling Mill Project Out for Bid

More concerns expressed about the Maryland Avenue Redevelopment project during the most recent meeting of the Mayor and City Council; however, this time it wasn’t about eminent domain or possible lawsuits. The project calls for the acquisition and demolition of 67 homes and a church in the city’s Rolling Mill neighborhood. The homes are being cleared to transform the area into a commercial site with a national chain restaurant and businesses.  Although the project is being at least partially funded by the city, with the possibility of county, state and federal dollars also being utilized- it is administered by the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, a non-profit organization designed to facilitate development projects.  Indications are that the project won’t be put out to bid, and that at this time the plan is to work with PennTex Ventures as the developer. Several citizens questioned the decision not to put the project out to bid, given that public dollars are involved…
