Teachers in Maryland are entering a new school year with looming questions about how their students will be tested, how they'll be evaluated – and whether they have the tools they need to teach a new curriculum. A few weeks ago, the state teachers' union, the Maryland State Education Association, joined other education leaders in calling for a moratorium on annual student assessments until Maryland switches to tests that match the new "Common Core" curriculum being implemented in classrooms. MSEA president Betty Weller said the issue still isn't resolved, and teachers are scrambling to find resources to teach the new curriculum so student scores, and their own evaluations, don't suffer.
