Razing Of Rolling Mill Neighborhood Homes Moving Ahead

Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim tells WCBC News that the razing of properties in the city's Rolling Mill neighborhood is moving ahead- despite a few very vocal protesters.  Officially known as the Maryland Avenue Redevelopment Project, the $5 million commercial development plan includes the removal of 67 homes and a church between Maryland Avenue and Park Street and Emily and Williams streets. Administered by the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, once cleared, officials hope to contract with a developer to bring a national chain restaurant and business tenants to the site. Mayor Grim says he sees the project as providing a tremendous boost for the local economy.  With four properties taken down last week, Grim said the next six properties targeted for demolition are at various locations throughout the target site…
