Received Purchased Gun Seeing Delays

May 10th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

If you buy a gun today in Maryland, it's likely going to be the Fourth of July until you may get your purchase in hand.  That's because Maryland State police continue to work around the clock to process new gun purchase applications and it's become not just a massive, but a staggering, job. Sgt. Marc Black said since January first, the State Police are working 21 hours a day 7 days a week.  The wait is now 8 weeks, and there are no signs of a letup.  The state has a mandatory 7-day waiting period. And, in October, Maryland's even tougher gun control measures kick in with even more stringent requirements than those in place now. Gun sales surged after the December shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary where a gunman killed 20 children and six adults. Much of the gun sale frenzy is attributed to worries that state and federal governments will pass newer, more restrictive, laws on gun ownership. Sgt Black said he understands the frustration being experienced by wanna be gun users- but the state doesn’t want to sacrifice safety for expediency.

Your time line of eight weeks is wrong!I purchased a hand gun on March 1, 2013, and filed for my MD & Fed background check on March 5th (after watching a mandatory video on the internet). Guess whst? It has been 9 1/2 weeks and I’m still waiting for my approval notification!
