Recommendations Coming Soon For Downtown Business District

Still in the midst of dealing with the Rolling Mill project- the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation is close to revealing the recommendations of a consulting firm for the downtown business district- including the mall. Sage Policy Group and McCormick Taylor have been engaged as the economic analysts and design consultants for this project.  After observing the current conditions, analyzing economic data, and conducting meetings with the Mayor and City Council, the Downtown Development Corporation, as well as business and building owners on Baltimore Street, the preliminary design concepts were created for review and feedback. Several of the proposals call for re-opening the mall to vehicular traffic and limited parking- plans that have not gone over well with those who favor the current “pedestrian mall” concept in place.
