Regents Meeting Over University’s Actions Following McNair’s Death

August 17th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports the University System of Maryland Board of Regents is holding a closed meeting by phone Friday to discuss the actions by its flagship institution following the death of Jordan McNair. According to an agenda, members will discuss personnel matters and will consult with attorneys in a closed session.

The death of McNair has led to more scrutiny for the University of Maryland and its football program. McNair collapsed May 29 during a team workout and died two weeks later at Shock Trauma from heat stroke.

Earlier this week, the university's athletic director said the personnel at the workout did not recognize McNair's condition in time or treat it properly before he was flown to the hospital.

The university said it takes moral and legal responsibility for McNair's death.

The University of Maryland has placed head football coach D.J. Durkin on leave as an external investigation related to the death of McNair continues.

On Thursday, the parents of Jordan McNair called for the University of Maryland to fire Durkin.
