Regional Airline To Connect Hagerstown To BWI

October 6th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Hate Interstate 70? You'll soon be able to fly to Hagerstown.

No, really. Southern Airways is moving its east coast hub for Hagerstown from Washington Dulles to BWI Marshall Airport starting Nov. 19. The route was last served by Cape Air in 2012. The change follows Southern's acquisition of Sun Air Express, which flew the Dulles route.

Tickets are already on sale online, including on the carrier's website, with fares starting at $29 each way.

The airline already serves three small towns in Pennsylvania from BWI: Altoona, DuBois and Lancaster. The service is aimed more at the people who live in those towns and Hagerstown, than passengers headed the other way. BWI serves more than 80 destinations across the country, as well as in Canada, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.

“We are excited to offer this service change to the people of Hagerstown,” said Keith Sisson, chief marketing officer of Southern. “Historically, BWI – Baltimore/Washington has been a great hub for the people of Hagerstown, this combined with our Pittsburgh hub for the city gives our passengers multiple options for air travel.”

Besides Southern Airways, Hagerstown Regional Airport is also served by seasonal Allegiant Air service to Orlando Sanford and St. Petersburg-Clearwater.
