Removal Of Dam Gaining Momentum

For several months now, the topic of the removal of the dam beneath the Cumberland-Ridgeley Blue Bridge to create a recreational waterway has been discussed- and some momentum is now gaining. According to city officials, a water/sediment quality study is needed to proceed. Councilman Nick Scarpelli has asked that the dam removal be considered a project and that the study be completed. The water and sediment testing would cost an estimated $75,000. During Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority, executive director Dee Dee Ritchie requested permission from the board to work with the city in developing a “recreational waterway plan”…
