On 2/20/16 at approximately 6:54 pm, Cumberland Police Officers responded to the 700 block of Baker Street, Cumberland, Maryland for a report of a subject waving a gun in the street. Upon arrival officers observed a subject matching the description of the individual enter a residence, possibly concealing a gun.
Officers set up a perimeter and the Allegany/Garrett County Hostage Negotiation Unit along with the Cumberland Emergency Response Team, Maryland State Police, Allegany County Sheriff's Office and Combined Investigation Unit responded as well.
After several hours of negotiations the individual exited the residence where he was taken into custody without incident. The subject was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Center for evaluation. Investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
