Revised Cost Estimates Of New Allegany HS To Be Revealed Soon

The revised cost estimates for constructing a new Allegany High School on Haystack Mountain will be revealed in just under two weeks when contractor bids are opened. Vince Montana, facilities director for the school system, said that bids were sent to the original five bidders on January 26th and they are due February 24th by 2 p.m. The original bids received in early September were some 20 million above projections, which led the board to rescind that effort and start over. The new estimates will take into account the cuts and modifications that were made to the school design in an effort to reduce the cost of the facility.  Although the Allegany County Commissioners have expressed serious reservations about how the county’s financial picture will be impacted by the new funding plan, Commissioner Bill Valentine says that the county remains supportive of the project…
