Canal Place executive director Dee Ritchie is calling on grass roots support to revitalize the Potomac River Project. According to tourism statistics, the scenic railroad and the Great Allegheny Passage have increased tourism for Canal Place and Cumberland- and the belief among many is that a water aspect would only add to the growing interest. The River Project plans, first discussed several years ago, included the development of a recreation area underneath the Cumberland-Ridgeley Bridge. Those plans included kayaking and boat launches.
