Road Surface Temperatures

December 2nd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

When you have freezing rain in the forecast, the temperature of the pavement is key to the potential for icy and slick conditions.

The Maryland State Highway Administration has sensors on Interstate 68 at Savage Mountain and Keyser’s Ridge, that are now reading 30 degrees.  At the Maryland West Virginia line, the temperature is fluctuating between 33 and 35 degrees.

On Maryland Route 135, at the top of Backbone Mountain, the road surface temperatures is 32 degrees.

Temperatures off the mountain are running above freezing at this point.
