Rocky Gap Revenue Will Soon Fund Scholarships

March 7th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Scholarship money funded by revenue from Rocky Gap Casino & Resort will soon be available to Allegany County students at Frostburg State University. The Allegany County Commissioners and university officials signed off on an agreement about the funds in late January. A similar agreement was also approved recently between commissioners and Allegany College of Maryland.  Recipients of the scholarship must maintain a 3.0 or above grade-point average and be Allegany County residents for at least three full years prior to applying for the scholarship. The funds will be paid to FSU quarterly and pass through the FSU Foundation, Inc.  The first scholarships will be awarded later this year.  FSU President Dr. Jonathan Gibralter said what the local officials have done, is groundbreaking and should be used as a national model.
