Rocky Gap Slots License Expected To Be Awarded Next Month

In November of 2008, voters in Allegany County and across the state of Maryland voted overwhelmingly in support of legalizing slots at five locations in the state including Rocky Gap State Park- three years later and still no slots locally. However with the process finally appearing to be reaching some closure- both of the bidders in the running are confident it can be a tremendously successful venture for the region. A slots license is expected to be awarded next month.  According to the Maryland Video Lottery Facilities Commission- the holdup, following a November public hearing before the Commission at Rocky Gap are with the background checks which are being handled by the state police. The checks probably won’t be finished until the end of this month. The two companies bidding for the license are Evitts Resort and Landow Partners. Enrique Mendenez, who represents the Evitts group, told WCBC News that their plan would bring more jobs and create more business for the county…





The Landow group is headed by former state Democratic Party Chairman Nathan Landow who is equally confident in the plan represented to the Commission for consideration…
