Runway Project Could Open Up Possibilities

November 19th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

A runway project at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport continues to move forward and that could open up new possibilities for the future of the airport. The Federal Aviation Administration is funding most of the $59 million runway project. The project was one of several options the FAA recommended to the authority several years ago. Regular air service ended more than 10 years ago when the industry moved out of turbo prop planes because of the cost and pollution and moved to small regional jets. The local airport couldn’t accommodate those jets on the runway.  Airport Manager Ryan Shaffer said whether or not regular flight service returns to the local airport greatly depends on the economy.
