Same-Sex Marriage Bill Making Little Progress

February 8th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

They have the governor's backing and a rewritten bill, but advocates of legalizing same-sex marriage in Maryland have made little progress in quieting the concerns of many faith leaders who adamantly oppose the legislation. The Reverend Bruce McBride, with the Calvary Baptist Church in Cresaptown, represents the Maryland Marriage Alliance, a new coalition aimed at stopping the measure.  He says the Alliance feels that many Marylanders believe marriage should be defined as between one woman and one man. Governor Martin O'Malley is pushing for the bill to be approved this session- and was among those testifying in support of the bill last week before the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. It was the first time a legislative committee has scrutinized the governor's proposed same-sex marriage law, called the Civil Marriage Protection Act.  McBride dismisses the claims of supporters who say this is a civil rights issue…
