Same-Sex Marriage Law Approved

Although soundly rejected in Allegany County, the same sex marriage law was approved statewide by a 52-28% margin and will go into effect January 1.  Governor Martin O'Malley, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and several openly gay members of the Maryland legislature spoke to hundreds of supporters early Wednesday morning. O'Malley put same sex marriage legislation at the top of his legislative agenda this year.  Lawmakers spent much of the first two months of the three month session debating the bill.  The governor signed it into law in March. Opponents collected nearly three times the required number of signatures to put the issue before voters this year.  O’Malley said he is proud of the voters of Maryland for making a statement…
