Same-Sex Marriage Supporters Planning Cumberland Rally

The Cumberland Times News reports that supporters of Maryland’s same-sex marriage law are planning a July rally in downtown Cumberland. An organization that started on Facebook, called Cumberland Setusfree, blossomed from an online organization to planning meetings for the rally and face-to-face meetings and support groups. The law, passed in this year’s General Assembly session, will likely be petitioned to referendum inā€ˆNovember.  Meanwhile a new poll suggests that support in Maryland for same gender marriage may be increasing. A recent Public Policy Poll of 852 likely Maryland voters shows a majority, 57%, would vote in favor of same-sex marriage if it's on the ballot this fall, while 37% would vote against. This is a 5 point increase in support from two months earlier and Josh Levin, of the group Marylanders for Marriage Equality, which commissioned the poll, says this is due to growing African-American support in Maryland since both President Obama and the NAACP endorsed same-sex marriage…
