Scaling Down Of Proposed Slots Plan At Rocky Gap Frustrates Local Officials

The Evitts Group plans to significantly scale down its proposed slots casino at the Rocky Gap Resort remains a point of frustration and concern for local officials who believes there will be a great loss of revenue as a result. The bottom line is that there are few, if any existing facilities in the area that offer adequate space for larger conferences. The Allegany County Tourism Department is making an effort however to help solve the problem. Tourism Director Barb Buehl said she has talked with representatives at Rocky Gap and are attempting to make alternative arrangements for some of the planned events…

    We don’t get major money and local revenue from the weddings, its the Conferences that help out the entire area. While I am not a local participant, I know that a large family support group was told to cancel their conference at Rocky Gap because there would no longer be space. They are a national group and people came from all over the mid-Atlantic. They use to meet at the Wisp but outgrew that facility. Now there is nowhere for them to go in the local area that is large enough…
