Scarpelli Concerned That Local Tax Dollar Are Being Used To Support Organization

The effectiveness of an organization essentially founded by his opponent is being questioned by House of Delegate District 1C democrat candidate Nick Scarpelli. The Maryland Rural Coalition was the brainchild of Allegany County Commissioner Michael McKay and was designed to give rural counties more clout. McKay, who has served as chair of the Coalition, is now a republican candidate for House seat 1C.  Scarpelli, in a live political advertisement on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” said he has concerns that tax dollars are being used to support the organization, and he would like to see some evidence of achievement…                                                     





 

In response, McKay said that membership dues vary; however Allegany County has made annual allocations of $5,000 to be part of the organization. He says the primary expenses of the coalition are the hiring of a lobbyist for the General Assembly session and a reception for legislators during the session. Has it been an effective tool for rural Maryland? McKay has no doubt that it has been….
