School Board Votes To Have Look Into Expanding Mental Health Services

School security and providing safe learning environments for students was once again a topic of discussion for the Allegany County Board of Education this week- with the board receiving a general update from school safety supervisor Matt Marlowe. In his report Marlowe noted that research shows that the presence of an armed security officer has no direct correlation to acting as a deterrent to school shootings. He talked at length about best practices including improving the situation in the school system by providing better access for mental health support. Following Marlowe’s report, the board voted to have the superintendent look into expanding mental health services in the schools.     Wow, Mr. Marlowe is a voice of reason and common sense. He’ll be gone soon. There are too many retired troopers looking for work.
