School Board Dealing With Full Plate Of Difficult Challenges

June 5th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

With exit negotiations ongoing- and a search for a replacement not yet underway- the Allegany County Board of Education is expected to select an interim superintendent of schools in the near future. Superintendent David Cox has agreed to terms with the Sullivan County Tennessee Board of Education for the head position there- and that contract is expected to be approved and ratified at Thursday’s meeting. Among the terms for Cox in Tennessee is an August 1st start date. At this point the local board has not commented on the situation and has not publicly provided any information on the potential search process- as negotiations between Cox and board attorneys pertaining to his departure continue. Board President Robert Farrell says the board is in the midst of dealing with a series of difficult challenges as in addition to finding a new superintendent, the board is in the process of finalizing next year’s budget; and trying to complete an audit that is now 8 months late. Farrell tells WCBC News he can’t say when the audit will be wrapped up…

In the private industry sector if your late on an audit people get fired. It’s called incompetence.

Exactly right Tim. It is time to hold people accountable especially if they show such disregard in such important matters. But then the BOE seems to be more interested in dress at meetings and internal politics than actually addressing specific goals.
