School Officials Pursuing Resources to Get Fiber Optic Cable

July 31st, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times-News reports the Allegany County Board of Education, with three of its schools still without fiber optic cable, continues to move forward with an effort to extend the high-capacity lines to all 22 county schools. Under pressure to accommodate the online demands of the new Common Core curriculum and its associated resources and tests, school officials are pursuing the resources available to ensure all schools receive fiber connection. While education officials say it’s a complex process, Allegany County Commissioner Bill said that the board knew about the extension of fiber to the Barton Business Park and didn’t seize on the opportunity, but adds that its not too late for the board to secure funding for the effort.
