Second Chance Act To Make It Easier For Non-Violent Offenders To Get Jobs

A number of news laws took effect in Maryland last week including one that supporters say will make it easier for non-violent offenders to get jobs.  Under the Second Chance Act, those with certain non-violent misdemeanor criminal records to have their records blocked from public view after three years, if they have served their sentences, including probation and parole, and have maintained a clean record. Baltimore City Delegate Jill Carter who co-sponsored the measure told WBAL Radio that the records will still be available to law enforcement, but will not be on public websites like Maryland Judiciary Case Search. Other measures related to ex-offenders would allow people to have their record expunged, if they are arrested but not convicted of a crime, or if they were convicted of an act that is no longer a crime…
