Secondary School Analysis Focused On Population Trends

Part of the extensive analysis of Cumberland’s secondary schools contained within a report last week to the Board of Education from Grimm and Parker architects focused on population trends. The bottom line to the report is to build a new Allegany High School at a different location; and to renovate and update both city middle schools- Braddock and Washington. When one person suggested moving the middle school students to Fort Hill and building one larger high school to accommodate both the Fort Hill and Allegany high student bodies- it was noted that the idea wouldn’t be practical. Although student population’s numbers in the county have been declining since the 1970’s- the latest data shows that trend finally starting to reverse in the near future…
