The first, in what will be a series of actions, was taken by the Allegany County Board of Education this week with the hiring of three officers to provide school security. The board has been working since January on getting the security officers in place. Board member Mike Llewellyn, who acts as a liaison on security issues between the BOE and the sheriff’s office, said that a process to hire additional school security officers is under way at the sheriff’s office- and that a request has been submitted for additional security equipment for the schools to the Interagency Committee of School Construction, which has funds available through a state security initiative grant…
