Senate Budget And Taxation Committee Approves Bills At Special Session

Five weeks after ending their regular 90-day session, members of the Maryland General Assembly wrapped up day one of  what is expected to be a three day special session to pass a tax package and other bills to support a nearly $36-billion state budget. The Senate returned to session at 10 a.m. Monday and began committee hearings on four different bills related to the budget. The Senate Budget and Taxation Committee approved the bills Monday afternoon, without changes.  It paves the way for a Senate floor debate and preliminary final vote this (Tuesday). Senate President Mike Miller told colleagues that he is not happy that lawmakers had to return to Annapolis, but he notes that the legislature did not pass the tax bill by the time the regular session ended on April 9…
