October 2nd, 2011 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski will be inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame this weekend. Senator Mikulski was first elected in 1986 to the U.S. Senate.

Earlier this year she became the longest serving female in U.S. Senate history.

Mikulski tells WBAL TV she is touched by the honor and says she wishes her parents were alive to witness the event.

The ceremony is taking place at the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York.

Mikulski says she could not have anticipated this honor and just had big dreams of service to her community.

A panel selected Mikulski based on her work on behalf of people across the country, not just in Maryland.
