Beginning early July, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface I-68 (National Freeway) between US 219 and Shade Hollow Road in Grantsville.  Weather permitting, the more than four mile, $4.6 million project will be complete late fall.

SHA’s contractor, Keystone Lime Company, Inc. of Springs, PA, will patch, grind (remove the top layer of pavement), resurface, restripe, replace and install rumble strips on the roadway.  Drivers should expect single and double lane closures any day from sunrise to sunset.

Approximately 18,000 vehicles use this section of I-68 each day, much of which is commercial truck traffic. Motorists should plan extra travel time during work.  SHA will use barrels, dynamic message signs and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. 

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
