Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade feels the county is receiving unfair criticism when it comes to funding the Board of Education. It essentially comes down to semantics and members of the school board have said the county didn’t fully fund the board’s budget request, forcing cuts to be made; while the county points to a maintenance of effort funding increase of more than $320,000 above last year’s allocation. In reality the board will be receiving more county dollars than last year, but not as much as the school board feels is necessary to adequately fund the system.
