Shade Talks DelFest; Agreements Pertaining to Personnel

While representatives of DelFest are on record saying they would like some assurances that Allegany County will retain the services of tourism director Barb Buehl before they are comfortable signing a new contract- County Commissioners President Jake Shade said in no uncertain terms- that is not a negotiable issue. Contract talks between the county and DelFest representatives hit a snag in the past few weeks after both sides apparently thought they had a new five year deal in place. One of the issues raised by DelFest business representative Stan Strickland centers on the position of Buehl, who has been instrumental in helping to market and sell the annual festival for the past nine years. Her contract with the county is up this year and Commissioner Shade said tourism will be subject to a request for proposals. He emphasized that while the county will do everything it can to retain the popular bluegrass festival held each Memorial Day weekend at the fairgrounds- the county can’t make any concrete agreements pertaining to which personnel will be involved with its management…
