Shaffer Pleads Not Guilty, Asks For Jury Trial

December 6th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Megan Shaffer, of Ridgeley, who has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Manslaughter, and Assisting with a Suicide in the death of Alexander Stevens, today plead not guilty to all three counts and asked for a jury trial in Garrett County Circuit Court.

The hearing lasted only a few minutes before Judge Ray Strubin, and Shaffer appeared along with her attorney to issue the plea.

Court sources say that a jury trial on the matters is expected to take several days, and won't be scheduled until early 2018.

The death of Stevens occurred between January 3rd and 4th near a logging road off of Pine Swamp Road in Eastern Garrett County.  According to authorities, the body of Stevens was found without clothes, with a knife next to his head.  Shaffer had found her way to an unoccupied residence, and used a cell phone to call for help.
