Sheetz opening new store in Lavale

July 21st, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports that the vacant building which housed The Bowler on Winchester Road is being demolished and a popular convenience store will build at the site, according to Sheetz, Inc. Sheetz plans a new store at the site measuring 6,407 square feet with a total estimated value of $1.2 million, according to an Allegany land use permit application filed by the company. It’s unclear whether the square footage listed includes parking. “The tentative construction start is early August with a rough guess on opening of mid-December,” said Brian T. Dinges, a real estate site selector for Sheetz. The company is planning to hire an estimated 30-35 employees, Dinges said. The demolition should be completed by the end of July, Dinges said, and construction will then begin.  The existing property is owned by the Derby Land Group, LLC, based in LaVale. Sheetz will be leasing the property. A contract for building the store is out to bid, according to the latest available flings with county land permitting officials. Chaney Construction is listed as the contractor to handle the demolition. Sheetz officials confirmed Tuesday that demolition had begun. The Bowler had 15 employees at the time it closed.
