Sheriff Caught In The Middle Of School Security Controversy

Those awaiting the recommendations of the committee appointed to study an enhanced school security system will have to wait a little longer. Sheriff Craig Robertson, designated as committee chair by the Allegany County Commissioners, has just returned from vacation and has not yet met with the committee to finalize any recommendations. The hope had been that the report could have been issued and made public this week. Upgrading school security is an issue that has universal appeal- however, not surprisingly politics has been a big part of the process in Allegany County to date.  The major sticking point between the school board and the county commissioners is with implementation and control of the security funds. The school board wants to develop the plan and to have county funds to do so- while the commissioners have placed that responsibility on Sheriff Craig Robertson. The Sheriff talked with WCBC News about being somewhat caught in the middle of the controversy…
