March 28th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Two weeks after a meeting between local law enforcement, the board of education and the Allegany County Commissioners- Sheriff Craig Robertson has issued a statement emphasizing that every effort is being made on the local level to insure top level security for the area’s school children.  A one page press release, issued Wednesday afternoon,  stated that the  Sheriff’s Office is currently in the process of reviewing and updating plans and procedures for crisis management and prevention, designed to  provide a framework in which every school in Allegany County, both public and private, can plan for and perform their emergency functions during school crisis situations. It’s further designed to assist the staff in following the procedure with the greatest possible speed and safety. The statement goes on to say that regardless of the prescribed procedures, training, and instruction, it is acknowledged that the judgment of the administration and staff is an integral part of safety management. County Commissioner Mike McKay, at that recent public session, said it’s imperative that Sheriff Robertson head up any comprehensive school security plan.
