Sheriff Says Panhandlers Are Not Breaking Any Laws

The numbers of panhandlers has been on the rise in Allegany County- and the activity usually picks up during the holiday season. It’s not uncommon these days to see any number of intersections in LaVale with several people with signs seeking money or other handouts from those driving by. The problem for Sheriff Craig Robertson is that while those panhandling may represent an annoyance or inconvenience to many people- they aren’t actually breaking any laws. He says that although there is a loitering law in Maryland, it does not include Allegany County…
