Sheriff warns of possible scams

Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson has issued a statement urging citizens to be aware of post- Tax Day scams. "With the passing of Tax Day, April 15th, the scamming has begun.  I would like to again make the Citizens of Allegany County aware of the increase in income tax scams.  Calls are being received, targeting citizens and accusing them of being in default with their income tax.  These individuals are attempted to intimidate people with threats of arrest for not filing or paying there taxes.  Please be aware that at NO TIME with the IRS contact a person in regards to their delinquent taxes.  All communications of this nature would be through the US Mail.  There is no need to contact law enforcement if you receive these calls, we only what to make you understand that these call are not legitimate. Please pass this on to your parents, grandparents and neighbor so that they don't become a victim.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me or my office".
