Sheriff’s Deputies Eligible for Early Retirement and Benefits

As a result of action taken last week by the county commissioners, deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office will soon be eligible for early retirement and enhanced benefits. The Commissioners unanimously approved a request by Brian Westfall, the county's director of human resources, to transfer the deputies out of its employee pension system and into the Law Enforcement Officers Pension System, which will take effect July 1.  The move will allow deputies to retire after 25 years instead of the current 30-year system for state employees. Commissioners President Jake Shade said the move is long overdue…
