Man Shot, Killed By Police During Grocery Store Break-In

May 22nd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Pennsylvania State Police shot and killed a man who allegedly broke into a Somerset grocery store when they say he refused to give up his weapon. It happened at the Save-A-Lot grocery store on North Center Avenue just before 4 a.m. Friday. Police say they were responding to a burglar alarm that went off in the store. Once they got there, police say the suspect appeared to have a gun and would not give it up – so police fired and ultimately killed him. They say afterward it turned out he was actually holding a BB gun, but it did not have an orange tip. During a press conference police said Michael Lowrey was killed  after police were called to the store when a burglar alarm went off. Police believe Lowrey was working alone. He died at the scene. There will not be an inquest into his death, Somerset District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser said. Police say they believe the suspect was also behind other recent break-ins in Somerset County.
