On Friday evening at approximately 6:00 PM., Troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack responded to a motor vehicle collision which occurred on S/B I-81 @ I-70 in Hagerstown, (Washington County) MD.
Investigation into the collision revealed that the operator of a Tractor Trailer, identified as Eldon Peachey, 58 of Slainsville, WV was traveling South on I-81. He swerved to avoid a collision due to traffic in front of his vehicle. When he did so he ran off the roadway to the left into the median, striking a sign.
The collision caused his fuel tanks to leak and a currently unknown amount of diesel fuel leaked onto the ground. The Halfway Fire Department responded. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle. The left lane was closed during the cleanup of the spill.
