A contingent of small business owners from Allegany County travels to Annapolis today to testify in opposition to a bill that would hike the minimum wage in Maryland to $15 an hour. A hearing on the bill is scheduled in the Maryland Senate. A number of small business owners have phoned in to WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” expressing the opinion that such an increase would hurt Maryland businesses while helping competitors in West Virginia and Pennsylvania that do not have a $15 minimum wage. While many business owners, the Allegany County Commissioners, Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and the District One legislative delegation are all on record opposing the idea- it appears to be an uphill battle as there is strong Democrat support in both the House and Senate. In addition, a new statewide Goucher Poll released this week- there is strong support for a minimum wage increase with 67 percent either supporting or strongly supporting the idea, while just 30 percent oppose or strongly oppose. Mileah Kromer, director of the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center, who conducted the poll, tells WBAL Radio that there is a clear partisan divide on this particular issue…
