Somerset Hospital to end maternity program

September 5th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The maternity program at Somerset Hospital will end within 60 days after its lead physician announced he is being hired by Johnstown’s hospital. The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat reports Dr. Charles Camacho will join the Conemaugh OB/GYN of the Conemaugh Physicians Group, the two hospitals announced last week.

“Somerset Hospital has always taken pride in providing mothers and their babies with highly experienced and compassionate medical and nursing care,” hospital Chief Executive Officer Craig Saylor said in a joint press release with Conemaugh Health System.

“However, without a complete health care team in place, the hospital recognizes that it will no longer be able to provide obstetrical services,” Saylor said. “We are working closely with Conemaugh and Dr. Camacho to ensure a positive transition of care for our maternity patients.”

Camacho will continue to see patients at his Somerset office, said Dr. Adib Khouzami, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at Conemaugh.

“The office in Somerset will be staffed the way it is right now,” Khouzami said. “They will have the same services they have now.”

In fact, patients can expect to see more services because of the Somerset office’s connection with Conemaugh, Khouzami said.
