Stabbing Found to be Self Inflicted

March 2nd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Early Saturday morning, 02/28/2015, at approximately 3:30 AM, the Cumberland Police responded to a private residence on N. Centre Street for a reported stabbing. The male victim initially told police that he was outside the residence when he was assaulted by two men in masks, one, or both, of which stabbed him, before both of the suspects fled on foot. The victim, who had four puncture wounds to the abdomen, was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Evidence at the crime scene did not support the victim’s initial story, and witnesses gave several conflicting statements about what had occurred.

After continued questioning, the witnesses and the victim all advised that the wounds had been self-inflicted by the victim, who was apparently despondent over an argument he had with a girlfriend.

As a result, the Cumberland Police obtained an arrest warrant and charged 37 year old Jeffery Wayne Wahl, Cumberland, with False Statement to Police and Obstruction of Justice.

The Cumberland Police also obtained an arrest warrant for one of the witnesses, 33 year old Shandi Renee Porter, of Cumberland, and charged her with False Statement to Police and Obstruction of Justice.

Both Wahl and Porter were taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. Both were released on personal recognizance and are free pending their next court appearance.
