Stabbing Incident

        On Thursday, 08/27/2015, at 5:47PM, Officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a private residence on Baker Street in Cumberland for a reported assault involving a knife. When officers arrived they found a 25 year old male victim who had been stabbed once in the chest and once in the abdomen. The Cumberland Fire Department ambulance arrived and began emergency care of the victim before transporting him to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for further treatment and surgery.

 

           The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The scene was processed for evidence by a Crime Scene Technician from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.

 

          An investigation was initiated into the crime and it was determined a fight had broke out between the victim and the suspect. During the altercation the suspect stabbed the victim twice. The suspect fled the scene in a blue Ford Escort. Numerous interviews at the scene were conducted. Investigators were able to identify the suspect as 31 year old Shawn Philip Judy.

  

          A broadcast was given out to all local law enforcement. The vehicle was spotted on Industrial Blvd. by officers of the Cumberland Police Department and a traffic stop was made on the vehicle. Judy was taken into custody without incident. 

 

         Shawn Baker was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and several other related charges.

 

         Baker is awaiting his initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

        

         The investigation is continuing by C3I and the Cumberland Police.
