December 4th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot, while visiting Cumberland on Thursday told WCBC News that the state will step up to fill in any funding gaps that may exist after the new Allegany High School project is re-bid in January. Bids for the project came in some $20 million higher than estimates in early September, and the board of education ultimately voted to rescind an earlier deal with the state in order to secure a more favorable fiscal package.  Allegany County Commissioners President Bill Valentine tells WCBC News that he has been in contact with the comptroller and the governor's office, and is now confident the state is ready to commit any additional funding that may be required to complete the financial picture. At last county, about $49 million in state and county dollars had been committed, and the project was hovering around $55 million.
