State Approves Interim Superintendent Blank

Dr. Karen Salmon, Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, has approved the local school board’s recommendation for an interim superintendent. Mr. Jeffrey Blank, current Chief Administrative Officer, will serve as the Interim Superintendent of Allegany County Public Schools for the 2019-2020 school year, filling the vacancy left by outgoing Superintendent, Dr. David Cox.

Mr. Blank will assume this new role effective August 1st. “I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to serve the Allegany County Public School System as the Interim Superintendent,” said Mr. Blank, who is a graduate of Beall High School. He attended Allegany College of Maryland and the University of Maryland for his undergraduate degrees, and received his Masters Degree from Frostburg State University in Administration and Supervision.

According to school board member, Tammy Fraley, “The members of the Board of Education look forward to working with Mr. Blank in continuing our successes and bridging the gap prior to the search/selection of a permanent superintendent”

Mr. Blank began his career as a math teacher in Prince George’s County in 1987. His tenure in Allegany County began in 1988, also as a math teacher. Other positions he has held include a coordinating teacher at John Humbird Elementary School; Assistant Principal at both Washington Middle and Fort Hill High Schools; and Assistant Supervisor of Transportation. Blank has worked in the Human Resources Department since 2003, and has most recently served as the Chief Administrative Officer and member of the Superintendent’s Senior Staff. Mr. Blank is the son of Donald “Dutch” and Sally Blank. He resides in Frostburg with his wife, Leesa, and children Katie, Amie, Jacob, and Salee. He is also a member of the First English Baptist Church.

    3-2 majority wins. Hopefully the troublemakers made the “amigos” sandwiches while they got the job done.
